Acupuncture & Herbs Reflexology Background

What should I expect during a session?

A session will take 45 minutes. You will be given a consultation during which you will be asked questions about your diet, medical history, injuries, stress levels, sleep, problematic areas and so forth. This is to get a full picture of what is happening to you physically, emotionally and mentally - as all these may be having an impact on the problem you present with - and allows the most appropriate treatment to be given. Acupuncture will then be given and needles will be left in the skin for 15-20 minutes which gives you the chance to lie down and relax.

All needles are discarded after single use.

It is advisable to wear loose comfortable clothing that can be rolled up or down to the knees or elbows, though in some cases it is required to remove clothing to underwear to access certain acupoints and towels will be used for modesty.

Depending on the condition, cupping or moxibustion will also be used.

Cupping

This involves glass cups to be placed on the skin using a technique that creates suction which many report to feel quite pleasant! It works like a deep massage, drawing out toxicity from the body and is great for clearing colds and relieving muscle tension. It can leave marks on the skin for an hour or up to seven days.

Moxibustion

This involves placing a smouldering herbal stick over the needle or skin to generate heat in the body and is great for colds or blocked conditions that can benefit from heat or increased blood flow.
